That’s right people – the much anticipated Visa Wellington on a Plate event is back and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. Held over two weeks every August, the Visa Wellington on a Plate event has quickly grown to become one of New Zealand’s biggest food festivals with a wide range of culinary events, special set menus in restaurants throughout the city, great street eats and some pretty tasty beverages to wash down this amazing feast.

Wellington on a Plate is this year split into four main categories: Festival Events, Dine Wellington, Garage Project presents Burger Wellington and Cocktail Wellington brought to you by Spirits New Zealand. Each of these categories offers something a bit different and we take a look in more depth below.

Festival Event

This year will see 127 festival events spread across the two week of the Visa Wellington on a Plate event from 12-28 August. The events will feature everything from future chefs to historical eats and pop-ups to wine bars. Some of the best looking events include:

  • A night with Willy Wonka
  • Argentine Street Food Fiesta
  • Backyard Brewing BBQ
  • Beervana
  • Gate to Plate with Salute
  • Man vs Steak, Whisky…and balls

Dine Wellington

The Dine Wellington element of Wellington on a Plate will see 136 of Wellington’s finest restaurants offering up some tasty specials at festival special prices including set lunch and dinner menus and all including a local regional beverage. Can’t say much fairer than that. Restaurants include Metro Top 20 entrants The Larder, The Ramen Shop, The Garage Project and Capitol Bistro and some of the dishes are going to truly tantalise the taste buds. Make sure you check out all the restaurants involved in the Dine Wellington event and get picking out your favourites: http://www.visawoap.com/dine/

Burger Wellington

Who knew there were so many burgers out there?! If you are a fan of the meat between two buns combo, then Burger Wellington should be right up your street. 116 burgers will take part in Burger Wellington, sponsored and organised by Garage Project as restaurants and food trucks battle for burger supremacy. The basic premise of Burger Wellington is a simple one. Eat. Rate. Repeat. Each time you try one of the delicious burgers on offer from a restaurant or food truck, head to burgerwelly.com and score it out of 10. Every time you enter your rating, you also go in with a chance of being selected as one of the judges for the final burger cook-off. Count us in! #burgerwelly

Cocktail Wellington

We don’t know about you but we are big cocktail fans so this event really appeals to us. Visa Wellington on a Plate is bringing Wellington’s finest mixologists to town to mesmerise you with their creative cocktails and matching tapas, all brought to you by Spirits New Zealand. Like Burger Wellington, Cocktail Wellington is also going to have a competitive element to it except this time the mantra is: Drink. Rate. Repeat. Every time you vote you and five friends are in with a chance of attending a very special night out so head to cocktailwelly.com and get voting! #cocktailwelly

This is a great chance to try new flavours and give something you have always seen in the movies but never had the chance to taste a try.
