Happy Halloween Auckland! If you’d like to treat (or trick) yourself or the kids to a night out, aside from the usual neighbourly door knocking, here are a few ideas:
Events for the family
As you can imagine, there are a lot of kid-friendly events taking place across the city. Here are some of our favourites:
Stardome’s Spooktacular Family Show
The astronomers at One Tree Hill’s Stardome Observatory and Planetarium are swapping their telescopes for broomsticks for a “spooktacular” family night, between 6.00pm and 7.00pm on Tuesday 31 October. Step into the haunted foyer where your little monsters can participate in science experiments, before the planetarium show. With every child taking away a goody bag, this will surely be a night to remember!
Halloween in the Library
North Shore’s East Coast Bays Library is hosting a free, family and child-friendly “Halloween in the Library” night from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. Bring your little ones and see what happens when the lights go out in the library!
Kumeu Light Party
Kumeu Community Hall sees the annual Kumeu Light Party on Tuesday 31 October from 5.30pm to 8.00pm. This combined church and community initiative is a child-friendly, “scare-free” event, meaning that costumes are definitely encouraged, so long as they’re not frightening. Relax while your kids enjoy the free of charge disco, bouncy castle, crafts, and more.
Events for the big kids/grown-ups
Halloween is not just about the kids. There’s plenty going on for the adults too, so don’t think you have to miss out!
Hell Horror Fest
ASB Showgrounds are home to “Hell Horror Fest” this Halloween! This R-18 event sees a selection of scary drive-in movies being coupled with a terrifying purpose-built horror maze (complete with scare actors), kicking off on Tuesday 31 October and running until Saturday 4 November. The theme of the maze will match the movie shown on the night, with movies on show including A Nightmare On Elm Street, Happy Death Day, Jigsaw (brand new release – 2017), Annabelle: Creation, and It (2017).
Stardome’s Spooktacular Adults-Only Show
Stardome is also running an adults-only version of their “spooktacular” family night, which begins on Tuesday 31 October at 8.00pm. Learn all about the horrifying myths and legends that inspired the names of the constellations, and get a few scares along the way.
JIGSAW Halloween At Spookers
Finally, the original scare merchants at Spookers Haunted Attraction Scream Park are hosting frightening new horror flick “JIGSAW”-themed R-16 nights on Tuesday 31 October as well as Friday 3, and Saturday 4 November.
