If you love to dance then the Latin Fiesta in Auckland could be right up your street. Part of Auckland huge Summer in the Square series of activities, the Latin Fiesta is going to bring the very best of Latin America right here to the City of Sails.

Grab your sombrero, shake your maracas and join in with the summer season of fun in Aotea Square.

Summer in the Square

For those of you who haven’t made it down to Aotea Square yet this summer…what are you waiting for? Summer in the Square is bringing a whole range of free events to downtown Auckland and is celebrating summer in style. Pull up a deck chair and prepare to part in the last weekend of January as the Latin Fiesta brings a whole heap of Latin and Brazilian-inspired events to Auckland.

The square will be packed out for the whole weekend from Friday 20 January to Sunday 22 January with stages set up on either side of Aotea Square. Ever wanted to learn to dance the salsa? Now’s your chance! There will be a series of dance lessons taking place across the weekend including salsa, bachata, tango and New Zealand’s biggest rueda circle. The evenings will be jumping with night time live Latin music. The best thing about the Latin Fiesta? Like all Summer in the Square events, it’s totally FREE!

What’s going on at Auckland’s Latin Fiesta?

Friday January 20

DJ King Salsa – 1:30pm
DJ King Salsa from Chile has been resident DJ at the Mexican Cafe for over a decade, and a popular headliner at many big Latin parties in Auckland.

DJ Lucas Datt – 3.00pm
This Brazilian DJ introduces the flavours of electro bossa, Baile funk and Latin house amongst other tropical beats.

Ge Luz – 20 January, 6pm and 21 January, 12:30pm
The Brazilian singer and composer plays a mix of different styles, from traditional music of his homeland to samba and bossa nova.

AK Samba – 7.00pm
Percussion band that fuses Brazilian rhythms with other dance influences.

Matecito Band – 7:30pm
Salsa, merengue, cumbia, and bachata from the best–known local Latin band.

Samba Maracana – 7:30pm
Samba is the best-known rhythm and dance in Brazil, and Maracana is the country’s biggest football stadium. Combined, that’s one funky Brazilian band!

Saturday 21 January

Ashe Cuba – 12:30pm
Ernesto Zuñiga and his band play the feel-good rhythms of són, salsa, guajira, bachata and trova. Enjoy live and high-energy music in the unique tradition of Cuba!

DJ Bobby Brazuka – 4:30pm
Spinning samba, bossa, funk, hip-hop with dub, reggae and drum’n’bass.

C-26 Band – 7:30pm
This seven-piece Latin band is a mix of South American and Kiwi musicians who love playing salsa, with Colombian founder Anayibi Loboa.

Forró Trio Santa Morena – 7:30pm
The Trio Santa Morena is sure to bring joy and excitement with the best of forró from Brazil. Fall in love with Forró!

Sunday 22 January

Mariachi Band – 12:30pm
Experience the authentic sights and sounds of a Mexican mariachi band.

DJ Kelly and Sheldon – 2:45pm
Tango tunes, inspired by the milongas of Buenos Aires.

DJ Dudley – 4.00pm 
After a weekend of dance lessons and parties, what better finale than a chilled-out salsa picnic on the lawn with DJ Dudley.
