What to Do in Auckland This Easter

Got your Auckland accommodation sorted, but still looking for things to do in Auckland this Easter weekend? Fortunately, we’ve rounded up a list of the top activities that will be on for Easter 2020 here in New Zealand’s biggest and most vibrant city. Read on to see them for yourself!

1. The Royal Easter Show

We couldn’t make a list of Easter activities without including this! The Royal Easter Show has been a part of Easter weekend here in Auckland for almost 200 years, first held in the 19th century! An iconic annual heritage event, the Royal Easter Show has something for everyone—from rides, to food to games and entertainment for the kids. As one of the biggest fairs in country, it’s a great place to take the family, and you’re bound to have a great time!

2. Catalina Bay Night Market

The Catalina Bay Night Market is a great place to enjoy an incredible range of Auckland’s best food trucks and produce vendors. The Market often extends its hours later into the night around Easter weekend, giving you more time to enjoy the live music, organic goods, and vibrant atmosphere!

3. See a Movie in Waiake Reserve

Auckland Council plays public movies in a number of parks and reserves around the city, and this runs right through Summer until April. Over the Easter break, Waiake Reserve will be holding a screening of the New Zealand musical film, Daffodils. The Movies in Parks events are zero-alchohol and smoke-free, so it’s ideal for kids too.

4. Easter Fireworks Spectacular and Demolition Derby

If you’re after something a little more high-octane, why not head on down to the Waikaraka Family Speedway in Onehunga? The Easter Derby is guaranteed to get your heart racing, watching the carnage unfold until only one stockcar is left standing! Attractions include races (featuring local celebrities!), and the explosive fire breathing Kumho Jet Dragster. Once a victor has been crowned, the famous Waikaraka fireworks display will cap off the night, making it one to remember.

5. Waiheke Jazz, Art & Music Festival

And at the other end of the spectrum, we have the Waiheke Jazz, Art and Music Festival! Held at Rangihoua Estate on Gordons Road, Rocky Bay, the festival is an unforgettable collection of arts and culture. Running all four days of the long weekend, the festival spans several venues, has over twenty acts to see, and an incredible range of stunning locations to explore. Not to mention the art workshops that you’ll be able to take part in! For a long weekend of wine, jazz, and beautiful surroundings, you can’t do much better than this.
