Five Exciting Things to Do in Auckland Over Winter

As Autumn winds down and as the days become cooler, you may find yourself spending much more time staying at home and trying to keep warm, but we want to make this winter the best yet. COVID-19 restrictions have loosened up across New Zealand, we’ve got to get back out there and make up for lost time. Don’t let the cooling weather keep you from enjoying the incredible winter Auckland has to offer. 1. Snowplanet

In a city that never sees snow, what better way to celebrate the approach of winter than snowboarding? Located in Silverdale, Snowplanet is a great way to indulge yourself in those classic winter activities we usually miss out on in Auckland. Whether you want to test your snowboarding skills, take the kids through the magical Winter Wonderland, or just make snow angels, Snowplanet is the place to go! If you’d rather just watch the kids, you can keep an eye on them from 7 Summits, a delicious restaurant located at the bottom of the slopes.

2. Commercial Bay

One of Auckland’s newest additions, Commercial Bay provides an experience like no other. The striking architecture houses a range of high-end retail stores and unique dining options with incredible views of the ports of Auckland. Commercial Bay is quickly transforming into a bustling hub of Auckland City, so there is something to please absolutely everyone. Do some shopping, grab some lunch and a beer, or just relax in the beautiful public spaces. No matter how cold it is outside, Commercial Bay is your escape.

3. Parakai Springs

There’s no better way to escape the cold than by literally escaping the cold! Hop into one of the naturally heated thermal pools, ranging from 32-40℃, with private options available too. Parakai Springs is the place to unwind and warm up this winter, but if that’s not quite your thing, the thrilling water slides will be sure to impress you. There is such a wide range of spa activities to participate in that by the time you’ve done them all, you won’t know where the day went. Just a 35-minute drive from Auckland City, a warm paradise awaits.

4. Winetopia

Need a bit of time away from the kids? While they’re being tucked in by the babysitter, you can have a night of wine-tasting fun at Winetopia 2021. With scheduled talks, tastings and other surprises, no wine-lover will leave unhappy. We love our kids, but sometimes we need a wine break, so where better to do it than Winetopia. The event comes to Auckland this on the 18th & 19th of June at Shed 10 on Queen’s Wharf and is sure to be an event to remember.

5. Eat your heart out

With hundreds of unique restaurants, there’s no easier way to convince yourself get out on a cold and rainy night than good food. Auckland has a wide breadth of eateries with their own style of food and atmosphere, so you’ll never be without a new place to try. From Coco’s Cantina on Karangahape Road all the way down to Caretaker in Britomart, Auckland City has some of the most delicious eats and drinks in the country!
